Overview

Population Council research in Swaziland has focused primarily on improving methods of preventing the spread of HIV and AIDS. These efforts include reproductive health programming with regard to HIV and AIDS, preventing the transmission of HIV from mother to child after birth, and increasing access to male circumcision.

Highlights of past and present work

  • Conducted operations research to collect the data needed to reorient the postnatal visit, document the implementation of revitalized postnatal services, assess the impact of these changes, and inform reproductive health programming with regard to HIV and AIDS.
  • Contributed to national strategies for expanding male circumcision services by delivering approximately 676,000 affordable or free male circumcisions in two African countries over five years.
